Designer / Operations Assistant 

c.£20k Full Time / based in Poole, Dorset

A multi faceted role in a small creative product company. You will get involved with all aspects of designing, developing, manufacturing, stocking and managing product inventory and quality.

This role will suit a bright, flexible, hard working graduate with good numeracy and communication skills. A proactive commercial attitude will be essential together with a degree in product design, industrial design or engineering. Good computer skills including a sound grasp of excel are essential.

Design / Development & Quality

·      Working with external and internal designers you will be involved in redesigning elements of our current products and expanding our range with new products.

·      You will assist in the project management of product development liaising with all parties to bring in products on time, on budget and to the agreed quality.

·      You will work with various technical bodies to ensure that Mathmos remains compliant in all current regulations.

·      You will assist in all aspects of quality management to ensure our products achieve the highest quality standards as is appropriate for a premium brand.


You will assist in the following activities;

·      facilities management of the office and factory, ensuring the factory is run in full compliance with current Health and Safety law.

·      purchase and production planning process.

·      the management of production and dispatch.

·      the management of all aspects of logistics.

·      all aspects of stock management.

·      the management of external suppliers.

Mathmos Design Internships - full or part time

Based in our Poole factory Mathmos offer unpaid placements providing fantastic hands on experience seeing products through from concept to sale.

You Need;

  • To have finished or be part way through a relevant design degree.

  • To live within a one hour commute of our factory: BH16 6LG. (We will pay either a petrol allowance or train fair (our factory is next to Holton Heath train station and has parking) plus lunch.

  • To be able to commit to a minimum of 4 months either full time or 3 days a week. (Please ensure you can afford to take an unpaid role before applying.)

  • A personable and willing attitude.

  • Solid Works and Adobe Suite are an advantage.

You will Receive Hands on Experience in the following areas;

  • Product design and development

  • Packaging Design

  • Product sourcing, supplier management

  • Setting AQLs and managing product quality

  • Exhibition design and execution
